Movement 1 of 7

Who is Jesus, and why does He matter?

Christian faith begins with Jesus Christ—not with becoming impressive, joining a brand or learning a technique. Christians confess Jesus as the Son of God, who came into the world, lived without sin, died for our sins and rose from the dead. The Gospel is good news about what God has done through Him.

In John 3, Jesus speaks with Nicodemus, a religious teacher. Jesus describes the need to be born again, the work of the Spirit, and God’s love in giving His Son. Religious knowledge and moral effort do not create new life. Notice the invitation to believe, and read the surrounding conversation rather than treating one sentence as the whole message.

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Why do we need salvation?

Sin is more than a disappointing label someone placed on you. It includes our rebellion against God in what we do, say, desire and refuse to do. Scripture speaks honestly about every person’s need for mercy; it does not reserve that need for people whose failures are visible.

Romans 3 brings religious and nonreligious people under the same diagnosis: all have sinned. The passage then points beyond our failure to God’s righteousness and redemption in Christ. Being made in God’s image gives human life dignity; it does not mean we are without sin or can reconcile ourselves to God.

19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say , at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

What has Jesus done for us?

The Gospel is not simply advice to try harder. Paul tells the Corinthians that Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose again on the third day and appeared to witnesses. His resurrection is central to Christian faith, not an optional symbol of starting over.

Jesus’ death and resurrection are the ground of our hope. We cannot purchase forgiveness, make ourselves worthy of it, or add a spiritual performance that completes His work. Read what Paul says was received and proclaimed, and notice how he speaks of God’s grace in his own life.

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

Respond with repentance and faith.

Repentance means turning toward God and away from sin. Faith means trusting Jesus Christ—receiving the good news as true and entrusting yourself to Him as Lord. Repentance is not pretending you will never struggle again, and faith is not merely knowing Christian vocabulary.

Romans 10 connects belief in the risen Jesus, confession of Him as Lord and calling on Him. The words are not a password or a formula. They express a real response to Christ. Bring your doubts into the light, ask for understanding, and consider whether you are willing to turn from self-rule to follow Him.

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Movement 5 of 7

Receive grace; do not try to earn it.

Ephesians 2 describes people made alive by God’s mercy. Salvation is by grace through faith, not a reward for works. The same passage says believers are created in Christ Jesus for good works. Those works are a fruit of grace—not the price of admission.

You do not have to feel an emotional surge to take God’s Word seriously. A guided prayer can help you speak honestly, but repeating it does not save you. Your confidence belongs in Christ and His promises. If you are unsure what you believe, keep reading and ask a trustworthy Christian to walk through the Gospel with you.

1 And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Movement 6 of 7

Speak to God in your own words.

If this expresses your response, you can use the prayer below as a starting point. You may change the words or pray without reading a script. Do not say something simply because the page asks you to say it.

Father, I come to You honestly. I acknowledge my sin and my need for Your mercy. I believe Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. I turn toward You and place my trust in Jesus as Lord. Forgive me and teach me to follow Him. By Your Spirit, shape my life in truth, love and obedience. Help me seek faithful fellowship and keep growing in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take a quiet moment. What do you understand about Jesus? What are you trusting Him for? You can ask for prayer or discipleship support without making a public declaration on this website. Nothing you do in this guide is a membership enrollment or a certification of salvation.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Begin walking with Jesus.

The invitation continues beyond this page. Begin reading a Gospel, pray honestly, seek a Scripture-grounded local church, and ask about baptism and discipleship. Acts 2 describes people receiving the message, being baptized and continuing in teaching, fellowship, breaking bread and prayer.

Ask someone mature in the faith to help you understand what you read and how to put it into practice. Do not confuse a completed guide, a digital card, a purchase or an emotional experience with a measure of your spiritual standing. Growth is an ongoing life of trust and obedience, supported by Christian community.

Use the support links below to request a conversation, discipleship or baptism information. The team must confirm available support and arrangements; a request does not book a ceremony or promise an immediate appointment.

37 Now when they heard this , they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

A reading guide is not a declaration of anyone’s spiritual standing. Scripture is foundational; a form, prayer script or completed session does not grant salvation.
